But when I stood up to him because I expected him to keep his word or show me an ounce of respect, he was taken back. I took some abuse because I wanted to learn so bad. I was taught to be humble through martial arts. She has been extra lovey-dovey lately and feel she walked off into the sunset or has been eaten by a coyote which happens frequently where I live.
#BRAZILIAN JIU JITSU DVD JOE MOREIRA PLUS#
Our cat of 13 plus years has not been home in a week. But, during one of our regular rolls last week with TC, I broke my ankle. I have never had a broken bone other than a finger in my life. I have been doing jiu jitsu since 1993 on and off and steady since 2005. What do they say, bad things come in threes? So, in between teaching private lessons and helping at Cota’s martial arts, I roll with one of my best friends, TC, who has a couple years of mat time on me and 40 pounds. Today Joe Moreira lives his life teaching and giving seminars while continually developing his unique set of rules and principles that help define the Jiu Jitsu taught in the Team Moreira lineage. What a week or so I have had….crazy how life works and how so many things can hit all at the same time. He went on to fight twice for the organization losing the first fight by decision against the gigantic Paul Varelans and winning his next fight against the russian Yuri Vaulin. Moreira agreed and fought Zane, sweeping him and mounting and submitting his larger opponent with an Americana bent arm lock. The test was a closed doors no holds barred fight in an academy against Zane Frazier. The famous UFC referee “Big” John McCarthy was a student of Joe and got him in contact with the UFC management, but before they signed him on, they asked him to make a test. Then in 1996 came the opportunity to compete in the UFC. Joe was also responsible for the organization of the very first Jiu Jitsu Pan American. At the time when Joe arrived in America, there were no tournaments. Joe decided to organize an event and thus emerged the very first Joe Moreira Cup. Moreira taught for about a year in a garage of a friend. In the early 90′s Joe Moreira decided to move to the United States. He would also receive his black belt in Judo in 1986 and a scholarship to Japan where he trained extensively in Judo, competing in the Judo World Cup there and placing second. He stayed at Reylson’s gym for well over a decade, competing in the scarce competitions available at the time, although he would receive his black belt from Francisco Mansor . Though surrounded by greatness, Moreira did not settle at the academy and instead moved to Reylson’s gym, who was the nephew and student of grand master Helio Gracie. He began Jiu Jitsu 3 years later, training at the famous Gracie academy which at the time was shared by the brothers Carlson and Rolls Gracie, though his coaching was mainly done by Reyson Gracie and the legendary Fernando Guimaraes “Pinduka”. Joe Moreira started his training in martial arts by his older brother’s influence when he was 6 years old through the fighting style of Judo.
He has three amazing children and his wife, Jaime (who is also a Brazilian Jiu Jitsu instructor), who have helped him shape his vision for the studio. He was a videographer/photographer for GoWesty Camper Products here in Los Osos from 2008-2015 but now dedicates all his time to his family and teaching Brazilian Jiu Jitsu. He decided to run from the cold weather and has now been living in Los Osos since 2008. Rob was born and raised in Oxnard, CA but has lived on both coasts as he spent a considerable amount of time living back in the state of Maine, as well. He dedicates all of his current study time to developing his Brazilian Jiu Jitsu under Master Joe Moreira. He has now studied Brazilian Jiu Jitsu for over 23 years with the likes of Joe Moreira, Aaron Blake, Trent Lewis, Luis Heredia and Demi Barbito. When he found Brazilian Jiu Jitsu in 1996, he knew that he had found an art to fully dedicate himself to.
Since 1981, he has studied Kenpo Karate, Aikijtsu, Chinese Goju, Tai Chi, Muay Thai, Boxing, Kickboxing, Jeet Kune Do Concepts, Progressive Fighting, Filipino Martial Arts, Combat Sambo, and Brazilian Jiu Jitsu. Since this time, Rob's thirst for learning more and more about martial arts has not been quenched. At the age of 8, his father would take him out in the back yard to teach him techniques from martial arts he had studied in Korea while serving with the US Air Force.
Rob has spent the majority of his life as a martial arts student.
